6 Reasons Your Music Content Is Failing - DIY Music Makers

Howdy.

I've put my brain (and experience) to use and compiled a short list of points that I deem quite essential when thinking about your music content. So please, if you will, input and digest this information to improve the audience reach of your content.

  1. You're asking for something in return

People who are browsing their feed probably don't want to leave their feed to stream your song. Similarly, the algorithm wants people to stay on the app. Try removing your CTA and just entertaining your audience, without asking them to click a link.

  1. Your content is low-effort

You get out what you put in; especially in the competitive music environment. Make content with feeling, and find a way to tap into your audience's emotions: nostalgia, heartache, empathy, euphoria.

  1. Poor audio quality.

We are in the music business, audio is our lifeblood! Record your jam sessions properly (record in DAW with audio interface > export). Are you speaking? Use a mic 🎤. Don't underestimate the importance of this point.

  1. You aren't using a ‘hook’

Your audience are fish 🐟 you need a sharper hook to lock them into your content. This could be a beautiful-sounding riff or chord or the catchiest lyric in your new track.

  1. Your hook is too late in the video (user retention)

Think about how quickly you scroll through your feed. If you're not hooked in within the first 3 seconds (or less!) of the video, you're probably gonna scroll on, right? Hit that hook right away. Or, try adding on-screen text for the audience to read so that they remain on the video.

  1. You're not in it.

Be in your vids. You're handsome, you're beautiful, you're talented. And your audience wants to see you do your thing. Own it! Setup the shot, nice background, nice lighting and being present, adds authenticity - an essential ingredient in any content.
